LIC to relax claims documentation of Air India crash victims

LIC offers relaxations for Air India crash victims' insurance claims, accepting alternative proof of death for faster settlements.

Life Insurance Corporation of India will extend certain relaxations with regard to documents required in respect of the insurance policy claims of the Air India crash victims.

In lieu of death certificates, any evidence in government records of death of the policyholder due to the plane crash or any compensation paid by Central/State government/airline authorities will be accepted as proof of death, LIC said.

The State-owned insurer announced this in a statement a day after 241 out of 242 people on board died after the Boeing 787-8 aircraft to London crashed minutes after it took off from Ahmedabad.

It is committed to supporting those affected and will expedite claim settlements to provide financial relief. All efforts will be taken to ensure the claimants are reached out and claims settled expeditiously to the affected families. The concessions are to mitigate the hardships of the claimants, LIC said in a release expressing grief over the death of passengers and crew members of Air India flight AI 171 and people on the ground who were killed due to the plane crash.

Claimants may contact the nearest branch/division/customer zone. They may also LIC’s call centre on 022 68276827.
