La Liga: Diego Simeone planning to put Real Madrid in a ‘difficult spot’ - We will play the derby as best as we can

Atletico Madrid are placed fourth in the La Liga points table and will be looking to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the next Champions League edition.

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone sounded optimistic about the upcoming Madrid derby, saying that his team will try and exert as much pressure as possible on their opponent. Real Madrid have already won the La Liga, having garnered 81 runs from 34 matches. Moreover, they are on a five-match winning streak and will go into the game on the back of a 4-0 win over Espanyol.

Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, are placed fourth with 61 points from 34 matches and will be looking to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the next Champions League edition. Simeone said that his team isn’t paying heed to outside noises and rather, they are focusing on tactics to get the better of Real Madrid.

"We are at a crucial moment of the season, we have four finals left to play. Tomorrow we will play the derby as best as we can, with enthusiasm and energy. We will try to put them in a difficult spot. We want to stay away from all the talk around this match, because the only thing that matters for us is the result," Simeone was quoted as saying.

"The club released a perfectly clear statement: congratulations to Real Madrid, to their players and to their staff for their amazing work during the whole season. Huge respect for Real Madrid, they have just become the (Spanish) champions, but we obviously have even more respect for our people, who are with us every day," he added.

Atletico Madrid will look to make a comeback after their 0-2 loss at the hands of Athletic Club at the San Mames Barria on May 1. Their last three matches are against Elche, Sevilla and Real Sociedad.
