Konkan Railway plans to upgrade Byndoor to a crossing station, and renew tracks for enhanced network capacity in Karnataka.
The Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has proposed to construct a new crossing station at Mookambika Road Byndoor in Udupi district of Karnataka to ensure capacity enhancement on its 740-km network.
At present, Byndoor is categorised as a ‘halt’ station though almost all express trains stop here. The station is the gateway to the famous pilgrim centre Kollur, which is home to the Mookambika Devi temple.
Converting the station to a crossing station to facilitate crossing of trains would help in adding more trains on the network, KRCL stated.
The other major infrastructure work proposed by KRCL in Karnataka includes complete track renewal of the 73.3-km stretch between Shiroor and Udupi in Udupi district. It has also proposed to develop additional loop lines at Harwada, Ankola, Gokarna Road and Honnavara in Uttara Kannada district, and in Barkur in Udupi district.
Konkan Railway has outlined a plan of ₹22.8 crore for the next five years as part of its 3rd financial restructuring proposal. Key projects include:
