KL Rahul posts message as fans question his absence from Zimbabwe tour: I wanted to clarify a couple of things

Indian opener KL Rahul took to social media on Saturday, 31 July clarifying his current health status.

India vice captain KL Rahul issued a clarification on Saturday, 30 July, after fans questioned his absence from the Zimbabwe tour. KL Rahul, who has not played a single India match after the commencement of the Indian Premier League, put forward a message over his social media, explaining that his path to recovery was hindered by a recent Covid-19 infection.

Rahul was ruled out of the five-match South Africa series over a groin injury which he went to get treated in Germany. Since then, he has not played against Ireland, three-format series in England and now has been ruled out of the Zimbabwe tour as well. With the World Cup scheduled to be played in October in Australia, many enquired about the absence of Rahul from the squad.

The Indian batsman said that he was well in path for full recovery, but that has been pushed back by two weeks.

“I wanted to clarify a couple of things about my health and fitness. My surgery in June was successful, and I had begun training with the hope of returning to national duty for the teams tour of the West Indies. Unfortunately, as I was nearing a return to full fitness, I tested positive for Covid-19. This naturally pushes things back by a couple of weeks, but I am to recover as quickly as possible, and be available for selection as soon as I can. To represent the national team is the highest honour, and I cannot wait to get out there back in blue,” Rahul wrote on Twitter.

India have many concerns going into the T20 World Cup, not having played a full strength team even for a single game. In Zimbabwe, Sanju Samson has been added as his replacement and SunRisers Hyderabad batsman Rahul Tripathi has received his maiden call-up in the Indian team.
