Asha, in her social media post, was responding to a statement by senior party leader MV Jayarajan after the killing of an activist, Haridas, at Thalassery on Monday.
Jayarajan had alleged that the murder of Haridas, who was a fisherman, showed the hegemony of the RSS and its dislike towards the fisherfolk.
"I’ve heard casteist remarks from CPI (M) workers. It was not BJP but CPI (M) leader VS Achuthanandan who called TJ Anjalose just a fisherman, as if it's an insult," wrote Asha.
She alleged that the party workers even introduced themselves not just with their names but also with their caste and also used caste to excuse the behaviour of fellow comrades, stating that, ‘oh he belongs to a specific caste, so it's natural that he behaves that way.’
She urged CPI (M) to not lie to their conscience. She also pointed to the incident in Kizhakkambalam where a Dailt activist was attacked by CPI (M) workers.
This is not the first time controversy has risen surrounding Asha Lawrence. Earlier, her son, Mithun Immanuel Joseph, made news when he attended a BJP event while still in school.
