Kanimozhi inspects flood-affected areas in Thoothukudi

Thoothukudi Lok Sabha Member K. Kanimozhi inspects flood-hit areas, relocates 1,585 individuals to relief shelters, monitors restoration efforts.
Around 1,585 individuals were accommodated in 33 flood relief shelters across the district, said Thoothukudi Lok Sabha Member K. Kanimozhi.
She made this statement during her onsite flood inspection in the city on Sunday.
The torrential rainfall over the past few days in the district had caused severe flooding and inundation across most parts of the district. Restoration works are currently under way at full pace to alleviate the situation in the affected areas.
Addressing the media during her inspection, she said that around 1,585 persons had been relocated to flood relief shelters across the district as a precautionary measure due to the flood threat from the Tamirabharani river.
She further added that the water discharge from the Marudhur anicut had been reduced to 20,000 cusecs from 74,000 cusecs and release from the Srivaikuntam dam had been scaled down to 30,000 cusecs.
She said that proactive measures had been taken to prevent the Korampallam tank from overflowing and maintaining it at a safer level by releasing 19,000 cusecs of water from the tank.
During her visit, Ms. Kanimozhi inspected various flood-hit locations in the district, including Threspuram, where water flows into the sea through the Buckle canal as well as low-lying areas in the city, including Rajiv Nagar and TMB colony, P&T Colony, Collector office.
