Jaipur: Three arrested for stealing 1.8 lakh litre of diesel worth Rs 1.45 crore

Three people have been arrested for pilfering diesel from trucks carrying oil to petrol pumps and railways. Police officials claimed that the accused caused a loss of Rs 1.45 crore.
The Jaipur police have claimed to crack a theft case that involved three gang members who had reportedly stolen 1.80 lakh litres of petrol worth Rs 1.45 crore. Police arrested three persons in connection with the crime and the officials claimed that the robbery caused a loss of Rs 1.45 crore to petrol stations and railways last year.
An investigation into the robbery case was launched when Jaipur Police nabbed an accused from a hotel in Bagru stealing diesel from tankers. Police received many complaints for the past several days about oil being taken from tanker-mounted trucks, the Times of India (TOI) reported.
The accused would steal 600 litres of diesel from tankers supplying it to railways and petrol pumps, police said.
Upon receiving complaints, police formed a special team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Vikram Singh Charan to solve the case.
DCP Richa Tomar was quoted by TOI as saying, "Police raided an empty land behind a hotel in Bagru and found the accused stealing diesel from a tanker. We arrested the accused and started the investigation."
She said that the police also recovered 1,700 litres of stolen diesel, two vehicles and multiple equipment during the raid, the report revealed. After one of the accused was nabbed, police launched a probe and solved the case.
According to police, the accused targeted tanker drivers who transported oil from an oil depot near Asalpur. Additional DCP Ram Singh told TOI that the accused colluded with the tanker drivers to steal diesel.
