IT officials seizes cash Rs 4.25 crore, detains businessman after chase

The IT department raided multiple locations in NCR, Kanpur and Lucknow, belonging to Devender Pal Singh, an Uttar Pradesh businessman. They seized Rs 4.5 crore in cash.
The Income Tax Department conducted raids at multiple locations in the National Capital Region (NCR), Kanpur and in Lucknow's Sarojini Nagar belonging to Devender Pal Singh, a well known businessman and director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship Developments located in Kanpur.
Singh was detained in Kanpur on Saturday night after a chase by Lucknow IT officials and local police.
Raids were underway at properties in Shahdara and in Ghaziabad. A source said that the raids started on Friday night and went on till Saturday.
Following a tip-off, Singh was detained in Kanpur. At that time, he was going somewhere in his car. The IT officials, with the help of Kanpur police, crashed into him and intercepted his car. During the search, cash worth around Rs one Crore was recovered. Singh was mum on the questioning regarding the cash.
The source said a total of Rs 4.25 crore was seized. The IT officials questioned Singh regarding the cash recovered in the raid, but he failed to give any satisfactory answer. He failed to give any record of the money.
