Israel said it launched a pre-emptive attack against Iran on Saturday (February 28, 2026), even as Iranian media reported that explosions were heard in the capital Tehran.
The attack, coming after Israel and Iran engaged in a 12-day air war in June 2025, follows repeated U.S.-Israeli warnings that they would strike again if Iran pressed ahead with its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.
Sirens sounded across Israel on Saturday. The Israeli military said that the “proactive alert to prepare the public for the possibility of missiles being launched toward the state of Israel.”
