IPL 2022: Wasim Jaffer steps down as Punjab Kings' batting coach ahead of mega auction

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer announced that he has stepped down as the batting coach of the Punjab Kings on the eve of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer announced his departure from the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise in a unique and hilarious way. Jaffer announced that he has stepped down as the batting coach of the PBKS on the eve of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction.

Jaffer thanked the Punjab franchise and wished their head coach Anil Kumble good luck for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Notably, Jaffer joined the then Kings XI Punjab in the year 2019 and worked closely with the support staff till the 2021 season.

Last year, Jaffer was appointed as chief coach for the Odisha cricket team for two seasons. Jaffer played 31 Tests for India and scored 1944 runs with the highest score of 212.

Earlier, KL Rahul, who has been Punjab Kings' captain for the past two seasons, and Andy Flower, the assistant coach of the Punjab Kings, chose not to continue with the team. Punjab have retained only two players - Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh - ahead of the mega auction in January. They will be eyeing a bunch of youngsters at the auction along with some established names.
