IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma said that Hardik Pandya played a big role in Mumbai Indians' success and it would be a different challenge for him to lead a side.
Mumbai Indian captain Rohit Sharma extended his best wishes to his former teammate Hardik Pandya for his new role as the captain of the Gujarat Titans in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
Rohit lauded Hardik, saying that the all-rounder had a huge impact and played a big role in Mumbai Indians' success, but it will be a different challenge for him to be captain of another franchise.
"Hardik Pandya's contribution can't be ignored by Mumbai Indians. He did the job perfectly for us. He's now the captain of one of the IPL franchises, best wishes to him," Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma said in a virtual press conference.
Hardik Pandya was not retained by Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. However, he was drafted by Gujarat Titans as their captain for Rs 15 crore. While the all-rounder from Baroda has no previous experience of leading in the IPL, he had been an integral member of Mumbai Indians' winning sides in the past.
Pandya, who has been demoted from Grade A to C in the BCCI central contracts, had recently undergone a general assessment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru where he bowled and also passed the 'Yo-Yo' Test comfortably.
