IPL 2022: RCB appoint Faf du Plessis as their new captain after big-money deal at auction

IPL 2022: RCB announced former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis as Virat Kohli's successor as captain. The former CSK star was bought by the Bengaluru-based franchise for Rs 7 crore at the mega auction.
Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday announced Faf du Plessis as their new captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. The former finalists announced the former South Africa captain as Virat Kohli's successor at the RCB Unbox event in Bengaluru.
Faf du Plessis will lead a new era for RCB as he replaces Virat Kohli who had led the side for close to a decade. Kohli had stepped down from the role after the end of IPL 2021, adding he wanted to take a breather from the responsibility. The former South Africa batter, who spent a decade with Chennai Super Kings, was bought by RCB for Rs 7 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction.

RCB, who have not won a title since the inception of the IPL, were the last team to announce their captain ahead of IPL 2022, which will be a 10-team season. Du Plessis will become RCB's 7th captain after Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Kevin Pietersen, Shane Watson, Virat Kohli and Daniel Vettori.
Du Plessis has been one of the most consistent players in the IPL so far, as the former CSK star has scored 2935 runs in 100 matches in the IPL. The South Africa star was in superb form for CSK during their victorious run in the IPL 2021 campaign, scoring 633 runs in 16 matches.
