IPL 2022 Qualifier 1: Title is more important than Purple Cap, says Rajasthan Royals star Yuzvendra Chahal

IPL 2022, Qualifier 1: Rajasthan Royals spinner Yiuzvendra Chahal is on top of the Purple Cap list with 26 wickets, 2 more than Royal Challengers Bangalore's Wanindu Hasaranga.

India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal on Tuesday, May 22 said all his focus is on helping Rajasthan Royals win the IPL 2022 title and not on winning the Purple Cap. Chahal is leading the race for the Purple Cap for most wickets taken in a season with 26 scalps, 2 more than 2nd-placed Wanindu Hasaranga.

Chahal is sitting pretty at the top of the table as Hasaranga, who has been in fine form for Royal Challengers Bangalore, is the only real threat apart from Gujarat Titans' Rashid Khan, who only has 18 wickets in 14 matches.

Chahal has had a new lease of life with Rajasthan Royals as he has been the leader of the bowling attack. Chahal picked up a hat-trick and a 5-wicket haul, his first in the IPL, this season. Despite having been RCB's leading wicket-taker for RCB over the years, Chahal was not retained by the Bengaluru based franchise ahead of the mega auction but the leg-spinner has thrived at Rajasthan.

Chahal has an opportunity to finish ahead of RCB's Hasaranga but the leg-spinner said he is certainly not worried about the two-way race at the moment.

"Never thought much about the Purple Cap, the plan was always to finish in the top two and happy to get that. The title is always important, much more than the Purple Cap," Chahal said before the Qualifier 1 between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat TItans at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Chahal eyes an all-time IPL record as he is just a wicket away from breaking Imran Tahir's record for the most wickets by a spinner in an IPL season.

Furthermore, Chahal said he backed himself to showcase his strengths and kept things simple at the Royals this year.
