IPL 2022: No need to think, just hit sixes- GT star Rahul Tewatia recalls thrilling last-ball finish vs PBKS

IPL 2022, PBKS vs GT: Gujarat Titans' players Rahul Tewatia and Shubman Gill recalled the thrilling last-ball finish after GT defeated Punjab Kings by six wickets. Tewatia said there wasn’t much to think about, I just had to hit sixes in the last over.

Rahul Tewatia's two sixes on the final two balls and Shubman Gill's magnificent 96 off just 59 balls helped Gujarat Titans (GT) defeat Punjab Kings by six wickets at the Brabourne Stadium on Friday. GT became only the third team in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to win their first three matches in the debut season.

The on-strike batsman Rahul Tewatia arrived in the very last over and hit two sixes off Odean Smith, recalling the legendary MS Dhoni's rare feat. It is not easy to pull off an incredible performance like this, but Tewatia kept things simple, which helped him claim victory from the jaws of defeat. Tewatia (13 not out off 3 balls) played just three balls and scored an unbeaten 13 at a strike rate of 433.33 to pull off a target of 190.

After the match, Tewatia and Gill recalled the team's thrilling win and their conversation reflected on the strategies which helped GT pull off a dramatic six-wicket win over Punjab Kings.

In a video shared by the official Twitter handle of IPL, when Tewatia was asked about his game plan in the last over, he said, "In the last over there was no time to think. Just go there and hit sixes. I had been practising Odean Smith's ball ahead of time and implemented the same, credits length ball."
