IPL 2022: Jason Holder for RCB captain? Aakash Chopra highlights why West Indies all-rounder can be ideal choice

IPL 2022: Former opener Aakash Chopra said RCB should look to appoint a captain who will not take center stage and Jason Holder can be a good choice if they are not looking at Glenn Maxwell for the leadership role.
The Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction is just a couple of week's away and as many as 3 franchises, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, are yet to officially announce their captains. It is expected that the three franchises might wait until the mega auction is over to decide on their next captain.
All eyes are on RCB as the former finalists are looking to find Virat Kohli's successor for the captain's role. Notably, the former India captain quit as the skipper of the franchise after the end of IPL 2021. Kohli's tenure came to an end without him being able to lead the side to glory as RCB were knocked out in the play-offs for the second successive season last year.
RCB have retained only 3 players, including captain Virat Kohli (Rs 15 crore), Glenn Maxwell (Rs 11 crore) and Mohammed Siraj (Rs 7 crore). While the Australian all-rounder can be considered for the captaincy role, considering his success as Melbourne Stars' skipper in the Big Bash League, it remains to be seen whether RCB take that route.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra on Tuesday said West Indies all-rounder and their former captain, Jason Holder, can be a good candidate to lead RCB in IPL 2022 as the franchise needs someone who doesn't go out looking for limelight, considering the towering figure in Kohli in the side.
Holder played for SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021 but the former West Indies captain was not retained by the former champions.
While explaining the reason for not picking Maxwell as captain, Chopra said he personally feels that the Australian's form can be up and down. Maxwell, who was bought by RCB ahead of IPL 2021, had a fine run last season, scoring 513 runs in just 15 matches.
"Maxwell is a tempting option but he is also a volatile option. Tough choice. It's up and down with him. He performed very well last year. In fact, RCB should pat their backs that they managed to get the best out of him. Could he be their captain? Tough choice," Chopra told while speaking on his YouTube show 'Betway Cricket Chaupaal'.
