IPL 2022 Final | Yuzvendra Chahal sets an all-time IPL record, goes past Imran Tahir on elite list

IPL 2022 Final: Yuzvendra Chahal won the Purple Cap and set a new record for the most number of wickets by a spinner in an IPL season. The Rajasthan Royals bowler finished with 27 wickets.

Rajasthan Royals spinner Yuzvendra Chahal set a new all-time Indian Premier League record on Sunday, May 29 as he became the spinner with the most wickets in a single IPL season. Chahal achieved the feat during the IPL 2022 final against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 29.

Yuzvendra Chahal was tied on 26 wickets with Imran Tahir who had taken as many in 2019 season for Chennai Super Kings and Wanindu Hasaranga who was holding the Purple Cap after a stunning season with Royal Challengers Bangalore this year.

However, Chahal won back the Purple Cap for the most wickets in IPL 2022 season when he dismissed Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya with a beautiful leg-spinner. Hardik was caught at first slip in the 14th over for 34 as Chahal gave RR a window of opportunity in the final after they posted only 130 on the board.

Chahal was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore despite the leg-spinner having been one of the pivotal figures in the RCB set-up over the years. RCB did not bid for Chahal in the IPL 2022 mega auction but the Royals secured the leg-spinner's services.
