Riyan Parag has taken 16 catches for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Rajasthan Royals (RR) bowling coach Lasith Malinga said that he has thoroughly enjoyed Riyan Parag’s fielding in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Parag hasn’t had a lot to do with the bat, but he has been exceptional in the field, having taken 16 catches in the tournament in as many matches.
Last week, Parag broke Ravindra Jadeja’s record of most catches by a fielder (non-wicketkeeper) in a single edition of the IPL. Malinga, who is among the leading wicket-takers in the history of the IPL, said that he is amazed to see the energy that Parag brings to the field.
“I have really been enjoying Riyan’s fielding in the last 15 matches. He has so much energy, he is so much athletic. He is always in the game,” Malinga was quoted as saying in a video uploaded on RR’s official Instagram handle.
“We all know he didn’t get too many opportunities to bat. But the energy he brings with his game on the field is amazing. I don’t think you can see it in any other team. I am so happy with the energy and attitude that he brings to the team. This is the attitude we need,” he added.
In 16 matches, Parag has scored 168 runs at an average of 16.80 and a strike rate of 143.58. His top score of an unbeaten 56 off 31 balls came against Faf du Plessis’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. Parag has been a part of the Royals since the 2019 edition of the T20 league.
