Rajasthan failed to be at their best after choosing to bat first against Gujarat Titans in the final of the Indian Premier League.
Rajasthan Royals’ middle order batsman Devdutt Padikkal managed a stuttering two runs off 10 balls in the final of the Indian Premier League final against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, 29 May.
Playing in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Rajasthan Royals opted to bat first against Gujarat Titans and got off to a good start owing to an intent-filled yashasvi Jaiswal. However, Rajasthan failed to keep up their tempo for long as Gujarat made a comeback with the ball and took two quick wickets inside the 10 overs.
In what looked like a tricky surface to bat on, Rajasthan Royals struggled to cut loose against the trio of Yash Dayal, Rashid Khan and captain Hardik Pandya and lost the momentum that they had built in the initial over of the game.
After the dismissal of captain Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal walked into the game, with the hopes that he would take on the Gujarat spinner. However, that did not work out as planned as the left hander struggled to put bat to ball and got dismissed by Rashid Khan after scoring just two runs off 10 balls.
Furious fans took to social media to express their opinion on the innings and argued that Ravichandran Ashwin should have been used as a floater in the final.
Padikkal’s innings completely robbed momentum off Rajasthan’s innings and put them in trouble halfway through their innings.
