IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Sanjay Manjrekar said Ishan Kishan will not face the pressure of the price tag unlike a few star players in the past, considering his form and familiarity with the Mumbai Indians set-up. MI bought the wicketkeeper for a whopping Rs 15.25 crore at the mega auction.
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar on Saturday said it's unlikely that Ishan Kishan will feel the pressure of the price tag after he was sold to Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 15.25 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction.
Ishan Kishan became the second most expensive Indian player to be ever bought at an auction after Yuvraj Singh's Rs 16 crore purchase by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2015 auction. Ishan was also the most expensive player sold on Day 1 of the IPL 2022 mega auction as he stayed ahead of CSK's winning bid of Rs 14 crore for Deepak Chahar.

Mumbai Indians were not able to retain Ishan Kishan as they went for Rohit Sharma (Rs 16 crore), Jasprit Bumrah (Rs 12 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 8 crore) and Kieron Pollard (Rs 6 crore). Despite letting go of the in-form wicketkeeper, Mumbai Indians were keen on getting back the star player as they shelled out more than Rs 10 crore for a player at an IPL auction on a rare occasion.
"I don't think the price tag will affect him too much because the team has shown great faith in him. I am sure it's something they would have told him," Sanjay Manrjrekar told Star Sports.
"When we talk bout huge price tags, bringing a lot of pressure, the player feels the pressure when the team is gambling on him. Someone like Nicholas Pooran (Rs 10.75 crore by SunRisers Hyderabad) can feel pressure.
"We saw how Yuvraj Singh, when he was sold for Rs 14 crore again, his own confidence went down. He was on the slide, Ishan Kishan is at the peak of the powers. He is at the same franchise, I don't think the price tag is going to affect him. I don't think Ishan Kishan will feel the pressure at all."
