IPL 2021: Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Brendon McCullum acknowledged the difficult Covid-19 situation in India and promised that the 2-time champions will play a brand of cricket that will "give people something to look forward to" even if it's for only 4 hours in these difficult times.

Former New Zealand captain and Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Brendon McCullum addressed the team and his support staff in a dressing room video after their win over Punjab Kings in Match 21 of IPL 2021, acknowledging the grim situation outside the bio-bubbles of the tournament due to the 2nd wave of Covid-19. Brendon McCullum said cricketers are privileged to be playing the Indian Premier League at the moment and said it's important that they play a brand of cricket that will make people hopeful even if it's for 4 hours a day. McCullum's comments come even as a few overseas players pulled out of IPL 2021 due to personal reasons in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Rajasthan Royals pacer Andrew Tye, batsman Liam Livingstone and Royal Challengers Bangalore stars Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson withdrew from the tournament over the course of the last week.
