A few players like Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals) and Daniel Sams (Royal Challengers Bangalore) had tested positive for Covid-19 before the IPL 2021 started but Kolkata Knight Riders duo Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier became the first-two cricketers to contract the virus during the IPL 2021 in Ahmedabad on May 3, just hours before Chennai Super Kings bowling coach L Balaji and a bus cleaner also returned the same result in Delhi.
