International Yoga Day expects to draw 15,000 participants at Mysuru palace

Additional Deputy Commissioner P. Shivaraj has urged coordination among various organisations for the smooth conduct of International Yoga Day to be held on June 21.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Shivaraj said the event will commence at 6 a.m., and directed officials to make all arrangements and ensure participants wear T-shirts and track pants apart from brining their own yoga mats.

He said a rehearsal session will be held on June 15, and those who are interested can take part in it. Various institutions and organisations are part of this year’s International Day of Yoga, including JSS Institution, Mysuru Yoga Federation, and training centres apart from NCC cadets and NSS students.

This year, about 15,000 are expected to participate at the key venue, which is the Mysuru Palace. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the yoga day celebrations from the Mysuru Palace in 2022, and the venue is one of the iconic platforms to promote not only yoga but also Mysuru tourism.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘One Earth: One Health’ and highlights yoga’s role in promoting physical, mental, and environmental well-being, aligning with global calls for sustainability and unity.

Mr. Shivaraj said ambulance, fire services, drinking water, and other basic amenities must be provided at the venue, and the Mysuru City Corporation should ensure cleanliness and water supply.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation was instructed to arrange buses for participants and the official also sought deployment of additional volunteers. All participants will receive certificates, said Mr. Shivaraju.
