India vs Sri Lanka: Ravindra Jadeja applauded before consoling Rishabh Pant after the star wicketkeeper-batter put on a stunning show of big-hitting only to miss a Test hundred by 4 runs on Day 1 of the 1st Test in Mohali.
Rishabh Pant put on a stunning show of big-hitting but he missed a hundred by just 4 runs on Day 1 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Pant was dismissed on 96 by Suranga Lakmal even as the wicketkeeper was charging towards a 3-figure score in the final session.
Rishabh Pant got to his fifty in73 balls but he switched gears and never looked back from there, taking the Sri Lanka spinners Lasith Embuldeniya and Dhananjaya de Silva to the cleaners. Pant hit 4 sixes and 9 boundaries, lifting India's total past 300 in quick time.

Pant was keen on getting the strike as he stitched a 100-run stand for the 6th wicket with Ravindra Jadeja. However, Sri Lanka struck with the new ball with Suranga Lakmal going through the defense of Pant when he was batting on 96.
Pant was looking to get to his hundred with one big hit but he missed a delivery that moved back in a bit.
The wicketkeeper was heartbroken after getting bowled as he stood on the pitch with his head buried in his hands. As the star batter was trudging back to the pavilion, his partner Jadeja consoled him and applauded his effort with the bat.
The dressing room gave a huge round of applause as Pant walked past them into the pavilion in Mohali. The crowd at the IS Bindra Stadium was up on its feet applauding the knock but the wicketkeeper batter was heartbroken.
