India vs West Indies: The BCCI confirmed on Friday that KL Rahul and Axar Patel will not be part of the T20I squad. Vice-captain Rahul picked up a hamstring injury during the 2nd ODI in Ahmedabad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday said that vice-captain KL Rahul and all-rounder Axar Patel will not take part in the upcoming 3-match T20I series against the West Indies due to injury concerns.

Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and all-rounder Deepak Hooda have been added to the 18-man squad led by Rohit Sharma for the T20I series. India will play 3 T20Is against the West Indies after the IPL 2022 mega auction from February 16 to 20 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

KL Rahul, who returned to the ODI team on Wednesday in Ahmedabad after missing the first ODI for personal reasons, has suffered a hamstring injury. Axar Patel, who was expected to make a comeback after missing the South Africa tour due to an injury he picked up against New Zealand at home.

"Rahul sustained an upper left hamstring strain during fielding in the 2nd ODI on 9th February 2022 while Axar has resumed the final stage of his rehabilitation after recently recovering from Covid-19. They will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of their injury," the BCCI said in a release.

India's T20I squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, Mohd. Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Hooda.
