India all-rounder Washington Sundar suffers shoulder injury ahead of Zimbabwe tour

Ahead of his impending comeback to the senior national team for the tour of Zimbabwe, all-rounder Washington Sundar suffered a shoulder injury while playing for Lancashire in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Washington Sundar's bad luck with injuries continued as the India all-rounder suffered a shoulder niggle during a Royal London One-Day Cup match in Manchester on Wednesday, August 11. Sundar left the field after receiving treatment on his shoulder, Lancashire said in a social media post.

Washington Sundar landed heavily on his left shoulder while fielding for Lancashire against Worcestershire. The extent of Sundar's injury is not known but the India all-rounder has had persistent issues with fitness.

The injury comes as a big scare as Washington Sundar has been picked for India's tour of Zimbabwe where the senior national team will play 3 ODIs, starting August 18.

Sundar has not played for ODI since an ODI series against the West Indies in February. The all-rounder was sidelined after he picked up a hand injury during his maiden stint with SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022 wherein he played only 9 matches.

Sundar recovered from his injury after going through a rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy and played county cricket for Lancashire. He picked up 8 wickets in 2 first-class matches in county Division 1 following which he played 3 List A matches in the Royal London one-day Cup.

Sundar, notably, was in India's plans for last year's T20 World Cup but a finger injury during the second half of IPL in the UAE forced him out of the premier showpiece T20 tournament. Sundar returned to play Vijay Hazare Trophy for Tamil Nadu but missed India's tour of South Africa earlier this year due to Covid-19.
