India–EU trade deal boosts student mobility, post-study work, jobs for professionals
India Today
The India–European Union trade agreement expanded mobility for Indian students and professionals. Officials said the pact secured post-study work, longer stays and clearer access to Europe.
Indian students are set to be among the biggest beneficiaries of the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement, senior government sources said on Tuesday.
The deal, finalised after nearly two decades of negotiations, significantly improves study mobility, post-study work prospects and long-term opportunities across the 27-nation EU bloc.
Officials said the agreement delivers India its strongest mobility commitments so far, offering greater certainty to students planning to study in Europe.
Student movement and post-study work opportunities have been protected through Most-Favoured-Nation-linked provisions, ensuring Indian students are not treated less favourably than those from other partner countries.
The pact comes at a time when Indian students already form a large part of Europe’s skilled talent pool.
Government officials noted that Indians currently account for over 40 per cent of EU Blue Card holders, a trend that the agreement formally recognises and seeks to expand.
