For Visakhapatnam’s residents, the daily transformation of the Beach Road is not just a routine; it’s a celebration of fitness, community, and the enduring beauty of mornings by the sea.
As the first rays of dawn light up the sky, Visakhapatnam’s Beach Road awakens, not to the hum of traffic, but to the harmonious rhythm of footsteps, laughter, and the invigorating sea breeze. From 4 a.m. to 7 a.m., this scenic three-kilometre stretch sheds its role as a bustling roadway and transforms into a vibrant health hub: a no-vehicle zone dedicated to the city’s fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers.
The transformation begins with yoga practitioners dotting the shoreline, their silhouettes gracefully outlined against the rising sun. Walkers of all ages follow suit, some lost in the melody of their playlists, others engaged in animated conversations.
A little further, the members of Vizag Runners’ Society gather near the TU 142 Museum, exchanging cheerful greetings before setting off in synchronised strides with routines of squats, lunges, and planks. Professional runners and members of the armed forces inject a sense of discipline and inspiration into the scene as they move with rhythmic precision.
Cyclists glide smoothly along the path, completing the dynamic morning scene.
The health-conscious spirit extends to the array of food stalls that dot the road every few metres. Vendors serve ragi malt, sprouted salads, millet dosas, and freshly cut fruits, offering nourishing post-workout options. These wholesome delights not only fuel the body but also promote the city’s growing embrace of sustainable and healthy lifestyles. At a few points along the promenade, medical check-up vans and stalls stay stationed for those wishing to keep a tab on their health parameters.
By 7 a.m., as the first vehicles begin to edge back onto the road, the health hub gradually dissipates, leaving behind a renewed sense of vitality. For Visakhapatnam’s residents, this daily transformation of the Beach Road is not just a routine; it’s a celebration of fitness, community, and the enduring beauty of mornings by the sea.
The tranquil health hub of the morning gives way to a bustling promenade in the evening. Vehicles weave through the traffic, while people spill onto the sidewalks dodging balloon-vendors and toy-sellers. The aroma of fast food, roasted corn, and murri mixture fill the air.
