After Steve Smith voiced his eagerness to lead the Australian side again, veteran spinner Nathan Lyon has backed the former national captain to take up the leadership role again.

Australia’s 100-Test veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon has backed former national captain Steve Smith for have the leadership role once again if and when he wants to have it. Three years since the Sandpapergate debacle rocked Australian cricket, former captain Steve Smith has said that he is keen on leading the national side again. "It's exciting that Smithy has said he wants the job again. I think over the last couple of years he's learned a lot about himself but also about his captaincy as well. For him to come out and say that he wants it is exciting. He's obviously learnt a lot and feels like he can do a great job again,” Lyon told The Unplayable Podcast. "If he wants it, in my eyes he can have it."
