ICC T20I Rankings: India back to No. 1 for the first time since 2016 after 3-0 clean sweep of West Indies

India returned to the top of the ICC T20I Rankings for the first time since February 2016 following their 3-0 series sweep of the West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday.

India, under Rohit Sharma, jumped to the No. 1 spot ifni ICC T20I Rankings, dethroning Eoin Morgan's England after they clean-swept West Indies 3-0 in a T20I series that concluded on Sunday in Kolkata. The Asian giants returned to the top of the T20I rankings for the first time since February 2016.

India, who were eliminated in the Super 12 stages of the T20 World Cup in 2021, have won 9 matches on the trot, which includes a 3-0 sweep of the New Zealand last year and a 3-0 sweep of the West Indies at home.

The comprehensive victory over the West Indies has helped India move level on points - 269 - with England at the top of the ICC T20I Rankings.

While England and India both have the same rating across 39 international matches in the rankings period (269), India has a total of 10,484 points, 10 more than England's 10,474.

Pakistan (rating of 266), New Zealand (255) and South Africa (253) round out the top five countries. Meanwhile, T20 World Cup champions Australia (249) remain in sixth after their 4-1 series victory over Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also set a new record as he became the first Indian captain to lead the team to 3 or more series whitewashes in T20I cricket. Rohit had earlier led India to clean sweeps against Sri Lanka (2017), West Indies (2018), New Zealand (2021). He is only the third captain after Pakistan's Sarfaraz Ahmed (5), and Afghanistan's Asghar Afghan (4) to achieve the landmark.
