I would love to see Ravi Bishnoi play in all three formats for India: Saba Karim

Former wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim reckoned that leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has the desired skill set to succeed in all three formats for Team India.

Former wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim reckoned that leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has the desired skill set to succeed in all three formats for Team India. Bishnoi came through the ranks after performing well for India in the U19 World Cup back in 2020. Thereafter, he was picked to play for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), after which he did well for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Earlier this year, Bishnoi made his debut for India in the T20I series against the West Indies in Kolkata and has picked up 16 wickets from 10 matches in the format. Karim said that India need to start the trend of picking leg-spinners in their Test team.

“I would love to see him play in all three formats and, somehow, for some inexplicable reason, we don’t see any leg spinner in the test match format these days. But I would like to see the change coming in here and Ravi Bishnoi is one such candidate who can play all three formats and do well for India,” Karim was quoted as saying on SPORTS18’s daily sports news show ‘SPORTS OVER THE TOP’.

However, Karim also mentioned that Bishnoi needs to play red-ball cricket for his state team, Rajasthan, to have any chance of breaking into India’s Test team.

“But before that, he needs to play red-ball cricket for his state’s side and if he does well there it’ll add to his confidence and then the Indian selectors can think of playing him in all three formats. The kind of eagerness and ability he has shown, and on top of that, the skill set which he has is really admirable,” he stated.

“Young in age and all that experience really helps in to grow in confidence and he can continue to do that in international level also,” Karim added.
