IPL 2022: Virat Kohli said he was okay with the idea of taking a break from cricket for a mental reset and said his motivation after the IPL was to win the Asia and T20 World Cups.
Virat Kohli, in the middle of a horror run of form for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022, said he knows how motivated he would be when he starts scoring runs again.
Virat Kohli has had a disastrous season this IPL, having managed only 236 runs at an average of 19.67. During this lean patch, Kohli got out for three golden ducks and his only half-century came at a poor strike-rate and RCB went on to lose the game to Gujarat Titans.
Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the history of the IPL and no other player has scored more than his 973 runs (2016) in a single season nor has any other batter hit as many as 4 hundreds (also 2016) in the same edition of the tournament.
Virat Kohli said he would want to win India two major tournaments this year and said that was his motivation.
"I know how motivated I will be when the scores start coming," Kohli told Star Sports. "I want to win India the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup; that's the motivation.
"I have to move forward maintaining a balance, get some rest, some rejuvenation, once I'm in the mindset then there's no looking back and... it's great fun. My main aim is to help India win the Asia Cup and the World Cup and for that I am ready to do anything for the team," he told Harbhajan Singh in a chat for Star Sports.
Virat Kohli said he was also open to the idea of taking a break from cricket to come back stronger. Several experts including former India head coach Ravi Shastri had said Kohli was overcooked and felt he should take a break to refresh himself.
