Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has claimed that he doesn't see Ravichandran Ashwin making the cut for the T20 World Cup squad.
Former cricketer Parthiv Patel has claimed that he doesn't see Ravichandran Ashwin making the cut to be a part of India's T20 World Cup squad.
Ashwin made his return to the Indian T20 squad for the ongoing West Indies series after an eight-month hiatus. The off-spinner did have a good IPL campaign for his franchise Rajasthan Royals this season where he was handy with the bat and economical with the ball in hand.
The 35-year-old had a good outing in the first T20I on Friday as he picked up two wickets from his allotted four overs while conceding just 22 runs.
Patel, however, felt that Ashwin may not make the cut for the World Cup squad. The former wicketkeeper said that Ravi Bishnoi playing the next game against West indies ahead of Ashwin.
Patel went on to say that even with the T20 World Cup squad, he doesn't see Ashwin making it and said that he would prefer to have wrist spinners like Bishnoi, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav as they provide variety.
He also said that the wrist spinners will provide an attacking option in between and it is something Ashwin can't give the team.
“I see Bishnoi playing ahead of Ashwin in the next game (if India decide to go with two spinners). I don’t see Ashwin playing the T20 World Cup, to be honest. I would want variety in Kuldeep Yadav, Bishnoi and (Yuzvendra) Chahal. Wrist spinners give that attacking option in between. Ashwin doesn’t give you that,” said Patel.
