Hyundai and Kia issuing software update that prevents TikTok challenge car thefts
Fox News
Hyundai and Kia have developed a software fix for their vehicles that are easily stolen using a technique that was shared on TikTok and other social media.
The method worked on certain older low-end models from 2011 to 2021 that used a keyed ignition instead of a pushbutton start and were not equipped with immobilizers. Gary Gastelu is Fox News Digital's automotive editor.
The videos showed how the steering column cover could be removed and the tip of a USB cable used to turn the ignition.
