Hyderabad kid with rare genetic disease gets world's costliest injection worth Rs 16 crore

Three-year-old Ayaansh Gupta from Hyderabad received Zolgensma injection worth Rs 16 crore after his parents raised the required amount through crowdfunding. The funding was supported by several celebrities from film and cricket field.

Ayaansh Gupta, a three-year-old from Hyderabad with a rare spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), required an injection that cost Rs 16 crore for his gene therapy treatment. With at least 65,000 people donating through crowdfunding, the boy has now received the injection. Zolgensma, labelled as the "world's costliest drug", was imported from the US with donations and administered to Ayaansh at Rainbow Children’s Hospital in Secunderabad on Wednesday, June 9. His parents -- Yogesh Gupta and Rupal Gupta -- were able to arrange the amount through a crowdfunding campaign started in February this year on ImpactGuru.com.
