HIV positive Mumbai man arrested for raping minor stepdaughter

A 45-year-old man was arrested for raping and intimidating his 14-year-old stepdaughter in Mumbai. The incident was uncovered when the girl revealed the incident to a neighbour. They filed a complaint and police arrested the man on the same night.
A 45-year-old man was arrested by Mumbai police on Monday, February 7, for allegedly raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter last week. Police said that the accused raped his step-daughter in their shanty near Bombay Hospital in South Mumbai.
As per police reports, the accused was affected by (human immunodeficiency virus) HIV and police are checking to see if he has infected the minor too. Police said the incident took place when her mother was not there. As per reports, her mother is also HIV positive.
The accused had threatened the minor not to tell anyone about the incident.
The incident was uncovered when the girl recounted her ordeal to a woman in her neighbourhood. After that, the woman took her to the police station and lodged a complaint.
A case was registered in the Azad Maidan police station under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Police said that a team was sent to the accused’s home and he was arrested the very same night the case was filed.
A team of experts from a child welfare committee will counsel the girl. Police are also probing to see if the minor was raped only once or multiple times in the past.
