Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut reacted to the raging hijab controversy on Thursday. Taking to Instagram stories, the Manikarnika actor said, "If you want to show courage, show it by not wearing burqua [headscarf/hijab] in Afghanistan."

"Learn to break free, not cage yourself," Kangana Ranaut said in one of her Instagram stories on Thursday, while sharing a collage of two contrasting photos of women.
One image in the collage showed a group of women in swimwear and the other one showed them in burqas. The photo was captioned, "Iran. 1973 and now. From bikini to burqa in fifty years flat. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
Kangana Ranaut's remarks came as several schools and colleges in Karnataka face protests over girls wearing hijab on campuses.
The controversy flared up after the management of a government pre-university college in the coastal town of Udupi in Karnataka barred six Muslim girls from attending classes for wearing hijab. To protest against the wearing of hijab, some Hindu students turned up wearing saffron scarves.
The row has not reached the Supreme Court after several petitioners, including students, filed pleas against the interim order by the Karnataka High Court on Thursday.
The Karnataka High Court heard petitions challenging the state government's ban on students wearing hijabs in colleges on Thursday. Issuing an interim order, the Chief Justice of the high court said colleges in the states can reopen but students cannot be allowed to wear any piece of clothing that is religious till the matter is pending.
