Hijab row an issue of fundamental rights, says Asaduddin Owaisi
India Today
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday said that the hijab controversy is a matter of fundamental rights.
Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday questioned Akhilesh Yadav's silence on the ongoing hijab controversy. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief spoke to India Today during his visit to UP's Rampur.
Owaisi slammed the SP chief, saying, "When he was asked about Muslims and the hijab problem, he dismissed the question, saying 'aawaz nahi aa rahi' [I cannot hear you]."
"What message are you sending to minority and Muslim society?" he further asked.
Asaduddin Owaisi went on to say, "The hijab controversy is a matter of fundamental rights. It is about women empowerment."
Owaisi had earlier claimed that the incidents in Karnataka were a ‘grave violation’ of the Constitution.
"This time, don’t vote for a king. Vote for development. Vote for AIMIM as this is the only party that does not treat you like a commodity to be remembered only during polls," he added.
