CBC
Brace yourselves London: March Break has arrived.
As usual, we made a list highlighting just some of the activities taking place around the Forest City. Hope this helps, parents — good luck!
Why not indulge in a delicious regional tradition and go see how maple syrup is harvested at the Kinsmen Fanshawe Sugar Bush. They'll be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from March 13 to 17, offering wagon rides and a pancake breakfast.
You can also celebrate the great Canadian treat by going to Maple Fest on March 18 at the Covent Garden Market. There'll be face painting and crafts, along with fun facts from the Royal Canadian Regiment Museum and more.
The Covent Garden Market is offering something free for kids every day of March Break. Check out their website to see the full schedule.
Nothing tires kids out more quickly than a vigorous hike, so load them up in the minivan and take them down to the Longwoods Conservation Area. They'll have free activities from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily at the Resource Centre / Ska-Nah-Doht Museum, or you can pay an extra fee of $3.50 for self-paced ongoing activities while supplies last. A full schedule and details are available on their website.
Heeman's Greenhouse is putting on a "Dino-Mite" March Break Fun event that runs each day of the week. Why not catch the reptile exhibit on March 13 or 16, or meet some insects on the 14th. No registration required. Read the full schedule here.
There's lots to do in and near London that's both entertaining and educational.
The Children's Museum has activities — like an eco-adventure and an intergalactic paint party — planned for each day of the week. The full details are on its website.
The London Public Library has an array of registered and drop-in March Break programmes as well, including chess games, a Canva design workshop and spy school. Find out more here.
And finally, the Stratford Perth Museum is hosting a new Young @ Art series that is free with admission going from Tuesday to Saturday.
P.E.I.'s Public Schools Branch is looking for 50 substitute bus drivers, and it'll be recruiting at three job fairs on Saturday, June 8. The job fairs are located at the Atlantic Superstore in Montague, Royalty Crossing in Charlottetown, and the bus parking lot of Three Oaks Senior High in Summerside. All three run from 9 a.m. until noon. Dave Gillis, the director of transportation and risk management for the Public Schools Branch, said the number of substitute drivers they're hiring isn't unusual. "We are always looking for more. Our drivers tend to have an older demographic," he said.
