Haris Rauf’s last over against India was match-winning: Pakistan bowling coach Shaun Tait on thrilling Asia Cup clash

Asia Cup 2022, IND vs PAK: Haris Rauf got the important wicket of Rohit Sharma and conceded 38 runs in four overs. Pakistan beat India by five wickets in the Super Four.

Pakistan bowling coach Shaun Tait heaped praise on Haris Rauf and said that the latter’s last over was the defining moment of the match between India and Pakistan on Sunday, September 4. Rauf started the over with a wide, after which he churned out three dot balls while bowling to Virat Kohli.

However, Rauf’s brilliant work in the over was spoiled by the fact that Fakhar Zaman misfielded and dropped a catch in the last two balls. Ravi Bishnoi collected eight runs by hitting two fours, taking India’s score to 181 for seven after being put in to bat first.

Tait, also a former Australian right-arm fast bowler, lauded Rauf for putting in the hard yards in the nets to polish his skills.

“Haris Rauf’s last over for me, putting aside the misfield and the drop catch. He has been working so hard on his yorkers and slower balls like the other guys have. And his execution in the last over was perfect last night. Potentially, that was match-winning,” Tait was quoted as saying in a video on Pakistan Cricket’s Twitter handle.

Rauf finished with figures of 4-0-38-1 and also picked up the wicket of Rohit Sharma, thereby breaking a 54-run stand for the opening wicket.

After loads of twists and turns, Pakistan beat India by five wickets to register their maiden win in the Super Four stage of the tournament.
