The Mumbai Police have sought cancellation of MP Nanveet Rana and MLA Ravi Rana for speaking to the media about the Hanuman Chalisa case. The court had asked both the accused not to address the media regarding the same.
The Mumbai Police sought cancellation of the bail granted to independent MLA Navneet Rana and her MLA-husband Ravi Rana for violation of the bail order conditions.
The Ranas were arrested on charges of trying to incite communal violence by reciting Hanuman Chalisa in front of CM Uddhav Thackeray's residence. They were granted bail by a Mumbai court on May 4.
The court had said, "Accused shall not address the press on any subjects related to the Hanuman Chalisa recital case."
Despite this condition in the bail order, MP Navneet Rana spoke to the media after stepping out of the Lilawati Hospital. She said, "I challenge Uddhav Thackeray to contest elections from any constituency and I will contest against you and show you what woman power is."
The Mumbai Police in its plea mentioned the statements made by the Ranas in interviews.
In a television interview, Ravi Rana also said that if reading Hanuman Chalisa is an offence, he is ready to remain behind bars for 14 years.
