The heat wave that has baked Hamilton and surrounding areas is set to end Saturday, but not before one final scorcher, according to Environment Canada.
The national weather agency said it will feel like 42 C late Friday afternoon in Hamilton and parts of Niagara region.
Other areas like Brantford, Burlington, Haldimand County will feel only a few degrees cooler around that time.
The weather agency says there will be "little relief" from the heat, with minimum temperatures in the low 20s. Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality.
Environment Canada says cooler weather is set to come Saturday, especially in areas near lakes.
People should watch for swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and other worsening health conditions.
They should also drink plenty of water before they feel thirsty, stay in a cool place and check on older family, friends and neighbours.
"Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle," says the weather agency.
The City of Hamilton and community agencies will offer "cool places" for people to go during the heat warning.
Regularly scheduled open swims at all City of Hamilton indoor pools will also be free of charge.
