Gujarat Congress MLA Ashwin Kotwal resigns, to join BJP today

A three-term MLA and a tribal leader, Ashwin Kotwal has resigned from the state assembly and all positions he held in the Congress before joining the BJP today.

In yet another setback to the Congress, Gujarat MLA Ashwin Kotwal resigned from the state assembly and all positions of the party ahead of joining the BJP on Tuesday.

A three-term MLA, Kotwal was elected from a tribal reserved seat in Khedbrahma constituency. He had been a whip of the Congress party in the Gujarat assembly.

For some time now, Kotwal had been dissatisfied with the Congress because he had not been given the post of Leader of Opposition in the assembly.

I have been working as an MLA from Congress in Gujarat since 2007. I have seen Narendra Modi’s style of working since he was Chief Minister of Gujarat. I have been impressed by him since then. But had stayed in Congress because of the ideology," Kotwal said.

He further added, “Now it seems that if I want to bring about the development of the tribals in my area and work for them, then only BJP can bring growth and development. Hence, this is why I am associating with the BJP.”
