GO Transit service back at Hamilton Station, Milton line Monday

GO Transit's Hamilton and Milton lines will resume service Monday morning after work stoppages at Canada's two major freight railways disrupted regular service last week.

In an email Sunday, Metrolinx spokesperson Andrea Ernesaks said there would be some adjustments to schedules throughout the day Monday "as we work to restore normal service."

"We will have additional resources available as needed in the event of any disruptions," she said. She encouraged customers to check GO Transit's website before travelling.

GO Transit was disrupted on the two lines when Canadian National Railway Co. (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd. (CPKC) locked out 9,300 engineers, conductors and yard workers just after midnight Thursday.

Less than 17 hours after the lockout began, the federal government stepped in, asking the Canada Industrial Relations Board to impose final binding arbitration. That request was granted Saturday.

Hamilton Station and the Milton line were the only parts of the GO Transit network affected by the work stoppage. Service has been suspended since Wednesday night.

"We want to thank all customers for their patience during the labour disruption and look forward to resuming normal service on the Milton GO line and at Hamilton GO station tomorrow," Ernesaks said.
