Glenn McGrath hails ‘luxury’ Hardik Pandya for having good game plan - He is two players in one

WI vs IND: Hardik Pandya has been in stupendous form since he captained Gujarat Titans to victory in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Former Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath said that Hardik Pandya is a ‘luxury’ to have for any team, keeping in mind the latter’s all-round abilities. Pandya is currently taking part in the T20I series against the West Indies and has been excellent ever since he made his national comeback in the five-match series against South Africa.

Hardik also notched his maiden T20I half-century in England and picked up two four-wicket hauls on the English tour. McGrath was of the opinion that if Hardik Pandya stays confident then he makes life difficult for the opposition both with bat and ball.

"Cricket is very much a confidence sport. Hardik is very much a confidence player. If he is bowling well, it has a positive impact on his batting. He is two players in one. He is a luxury. He is a good, intelligent bowler and powerful hitter. He has got a good game plan," McGrath was quoted as saying to the reporters.

Hardik was dropped from Team India after he flattered to deceive in the T20 World Cup 2021. However, after leading Gujarat Titans to glory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, he has well and truly been able to make amends.

McGrath also shared his opinions on the recent talks about the sustainability of ODI cricket. The veteran said that Test cricket needs to be protected and kept his fingers crossed regarding the future of the 50-over format at the international level.

"I am very much a traditionalist. I liked Tests, I liked my ODIs. Test cricket is still the ultimate to me. I hope that it is protected and still held in high regard. As for the ODIs, it is still exciting as long as they are scoring runs. Interesting to see the future (of ODIs) and see where it goes. They have got to keep making it (ODIs) exciting. They have got a few challenges," he added.
