Signing Kenny Golladay to a $72 million megadeal does not preclude the Giants from taking a wide receiver in the first round of this draft. Far from it. Taking a shot at speedy John Ross in free agency does not preclude that, either. The Giants are not desperate to add talent to their receiver corps, but supreme playmaking ability is welcome wherever you can find it. This draft is loaded with targets, and if Jaylen Waddle (possible) or DeVonta Smith (less likely) is on the board at No. 11, the Giants might be enticed to take the plunge. They can also get a playmaker on the second day of the draft — think Kadarius Toney, Amari Rodgers or Rondale Moore — if they go for another position in the first round. After returning starters Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton, the depth chart is filled with young receivers the Giants are interested in further examining. There are C.J. Board, Dante Pettis, Austin Mack, Derrick Dillon, Alex Bachman and Davis Sills to sort through this summer. What might await the Giants in the first round is a completely different deal. Adding Waddle or Smith instantly would provide a big-play, yards-after-catch dimension to take the offense to another level. A wide receiver in Round 1 is a serious consideration.
