Buccaneers star Lavonte David retiring after 14 seasons
NY Post
Veteran Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David is retiring after 14 NFL seasons, all with Tampa Bay, the team announced on Tuesday.
The news came shortly after the Buccaneers announced a press conference with David set for Tuesday afternoon at the team’s auditorium at the AdventHealth Training Center at 2 p.m. ET.
Tampa Bay signed veteran linebacker Christian Rozeboom on Monday.
In 2025, Rozeboom recorded 122 total tackles, 2.0 sacks and one interception for the Carolina Panthers, while setting a new season-high in tackles for loss (7).
General Manager Jason Licht and head coach Todd Bowles addressed David’s free agency at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, which took place at the end of February into early March in Indianapolis.
“Once again, you know how I feel and we feel and the entire organization [feels] about Lavonte David,” Licht said. “He is the staple of what we look for in a player and a person and he has also earned the right to take a step back and decide what his future is and we are giving him that respect right now.”In 2025, David amassed an interception, three passes defended, two forced fumbles, 3.5 sacks, 114 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss and six quarterback hits.

SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.
