Ghulam Nabi Azad’s aide likely to become next J&K Congress chief

Congress held a second crucial meeting on Wednesday at party’s war room within 48 hours and Azad’s presence in the meeting has set the rumour mills on fire.
An aide of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is a key G23 group member, might be announced as the next Congress head of Jammu and Kashmir unit.
Congress held a second crucial meeting again on Wednesday at party’s war room within 48 hours and Azad’s presence in the meeting has set the rumour mills on fire.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Congress sources, Waqar Rasool’s name is also doing the rounds, but with Ghulam Nabi Azad’s presence in the meeting, the possibility of a leader from his camp getting the post has increased.
General Secretary of AICC KC Venugopal chaired the meeting. After the meeting, he tweeted, “The meeting of senior Congress leaders from Jammu & Kashmir was held in Delhi, to discuss party affairs and election preparedness.”
According to sources, the meeting was held to discuss ways to strengthen the party before the assembly elections that might be held this year.
According to a leader present in the meeting, “Azad asked everyone present in the meeting to forget their differences and move forward in a united manner to strengthen the party.”
Ghulam Ahmad Mir has already resigned from the post of Congress’ Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Committee chief.
