The governor shared his thoughts on the recent deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) didn’t hold back when asked about his views on President Donald Trump, unleashing a slew of criticism during a recent appearance on the “Shawn Ryan Show” Monday.
During the conversation, the governor reflected on his love for California, but the conversation quickly turned pointed. Newsom accused Trump of treating Los Angeles as if it were “under siege” and said he was “trying to wreck” the state in reference to the controversial deployment of thousands of National Guard troops, a move tied to the federal government’s immigration crackdowns.
Newsom emphasized that California doesn’t require military force to maintain order, pointing to the state’s “robust” law enforcement infrastructure. He then described the deployment in stark terms.
“They’re sitting there on horses with American flags, running through soccer fields, scaring kids that are playing soccer in the middle of the day at a summer camp. For what? Just toughness,” he said.
“It’s weakness masquerading as strength. That’s what I don’t like about this son of a bitch. I don’t,” Newsom said. “Forgive me, I know he’s the president of the United States.”
