Marin Cilic lost to Casper Ruud in the semi-final of the French Open by 6-3, 4-6, 2-6, 2-6 in a match that lasted two hours and 55 minutes. Ruud will play Rafael Nadal in the final on June 5.

Croatia's Marin Cilic sent out an optimistic message after crashing out of the French Open following his semi-final defeat at the hands of Casper Ruud of Norway.

At the Court Philippe-Chatrier, Cilic went down 6-3, 4-6, 2-6, 2-6 against Ruud in a match that lasted two hours and 55 minutes.

"I'm playing well, feeling good on the court. (The match) was obviously unfortunate and a bit sad and disappointing to finish a tournament at this point," Cilic was quoted as saying after the match. "For me the journey keeps going, and hopefully there's going to be another great moment."

The 33-year-old Cilic, who won the US Open in 2014, has not reached a Grand Slam final since losing the final at Wimbledon in 2017 and the Australian Open in 2018.

"I have to say that my form now the last few weeks just went very steep," Cilic said. "I started to feel great on the court, connected now five, six matches that were really, really high level. Part of the match was definitely also quite good."

"I have to be definitely happy with that. It's also a challenge now for me to keep that up and to keep going like that, to be on that kind of a level week after week."

Meanwhile, Casper Ruud will meet Rafael Nadal in the final of the French Open on June 5. The match will start at 6:30 PM (IST).
