
Free rides on Delhi-Meerut Expressway to end; toll tax to be charged from December 25

The collection of toll tax on the Delhi Meerut Expressway will begin from December 25 and vehicles travelling for one kilometer will have to shell out Rs 65 as toll tax.
Free rides on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) will end soon as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to start the collection of toll tax from December 25, 2021. The NHAI will start collecting a toll tax for the entire stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut.
No toll tax was being charged from commuters plying on the stretch because the farmers occupied the Ghazipur border to protest against the three agricultural laws. On December 15, police barricades were removed from the Delhi-UP border after protesting farmers vacated the Ghazipur border protest site.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
